I got back yesterday from a weekend in NYC spent snuggling up with my besties (specifically Berry and Laura), and I had my first official wedding dress fitting! It was the first time I have put on a dress during this whole process and felt like yes. I will be wed in this. Then the dress designer came in to see it on me, and remembering last time we met and how she went to kiss me on both cheeks and I only went to kiss one, and how super awkward that was, I went in for the double double. And she went for the single. And it looked like I was manhandling her into a second kiss like some crazed eurotrash lesbian, and I just wanted to die.

While in New York I got to visit Lonny Headquarters and meet the insanely talented pair behind all of our new obsession, Michelle and Patrick. I did not get to go because of my prolific blogging, but because a childhood friend interns for them. I wish you could see from whence Lonny is born, it’s crazy. Not because it isn’t cute. I mean, could Michelle of Rubie Green really function out of homely digs? No. But there is zero fluff. It is clear that every resource they have goes straight into their passion project. AND there are Rubie Green textiles hanging from the walls, as well as some of Patrick’s photography just lyin’ around. I would have grabbed handfuls of both, but I am hoping to be invited back someday. Meeting them I managed to be slightly less awkward than I was with my wedding dress designer, although that really isn’t saying a lot.
I also stopped by Joanna Goddard of Cup of Jo fame’s stoop sale and bought a few pairs of the glasses she had leftover from her Wedding party favors. Three for a dollah actually. Bargain. They turn all points of light into hearts. Laura and I wore them in the cab home from dinner that night and were freaking out at the magicalness. I am pretty sure our cab driver thought we were tripping balls.
Inevitably every time I am in New York I am asked questions about how it compares to Chicago. I dont know?!? How does a S’more compare to a Peep? Obviously the smore is better (in this case, Chicago) but they both have their charms.
But seriously. Check out this radness.
New York vs. Chicago spacially.

When people ask me where I live within the city and what that compares to in New York, I explain that whereas like the Loop might be like midtown, Wicker Park could be SoHo, and the Gold Coast like the Upper East Side, I live in Lincoln Park which might compare to Greenwich Village. I am not sure quite what that means, except that I do know if I lived in New York I would want to live in Greenwich Village. So I think it works.
Although I think I might now have a new appreciation for Brooklyn after Laura and I got lost there for 4 hours on Saturday on our quest to visit The Brooklyn Flea.

And then met up with one of the loveliest people in the Universe, my friend Isabel. Who took us to the Bedford Cheese Shop to stock up on cheese, and honey, and baguettes and elder flower water for a picnic. Then Laura and I walked back to the city across the Williamsburg Bridge at Sunset.
And…scene.

Having never been to Chicago, I now feel I understand it a bit better, coming from the NY comparison….Did you get your dress at Kleinfelds? That’s where I got mine… a lifetime ago!

Thanks for your comment on Tate’s post today. I literally cracked up when I read that you wrote: “That’s it. Cockapoo me!” I love it!
I don’t know if you realized this, your map of Chicago leaves out the beautiful Hyde Park neighborhood. I would guess that it correlates most closely to the Bronx.
