Well not yet. But soon!
(London Homes & Garden)
Sunday Petey and I are flying to London for his Spring Break. My step father is from London so I was a lucky girl and got to spend some time there growing up, but I haven’t been in almost 10 years!! I think it is going to be a jolly good time, so long as Pete and I can contain our urge to speak in English accents. Seriously. You should hear Pete talking to my step dad after a few glasses of wine. Embarrassing.
I Goop’d a bunch of junk, but you know Gwynnie, not always the most realistic tips. SO I want to hear from all of you! Where should we go? Where is the best pub? Place for bubbles and squeak?? What should we do? Eddie…where are the best flea markets??
Give it to me people!

So jealous. So, so jealous. I just discovered your blog via I Suwannee, so I ‘m not totally sure what you’re into, but if I was in London right now, I’d definitely make some time for some live theater. They’ve got that down there; plus they make it crazy affordable (take note NYC). I would also go to high tea. Every day if I could. Last time I was there, we went to to the Ritz, which was wonderful obviously, but I’d want to try something new this time around. The Berkley sounds cool and different: http://www.the-berkeley.co.uk/fashionista_tea.aspx And I’d spend hours wandering around Notting Hill. I remember liking Churchill Arms, a Thai restaurant/pub in NH quite a bit, but I don’t think I went to a pub I didn’t like…
Anyways, enjoy every second so your blog readers can live vicariously through you!

If you like Indian food, Amaya in Belgravia is to. die. for. Avoid pub food, even as a joke!
Coolers – and I’m jealous! Wish I could offer some advice, but I’ve not been – expect full (and way more rockin’ than GOOP!) deets upon your return!
My mother in law lives in London and she says you have to at least try fish and chips once! Have fun!

can i come!?!
I’ve already told you 12 gagillion times, but in case anyone else reads this who is going to London…
1. Walk the SOUTH BANK of the Thames starting at the London Eye and heading East to Tower Bridge. Stop at Borough Market along the way. Plan to be there around lunch. AMAZING. So many options. It’s crowded but that’s why it’s fun – you’ll see lots of Londoners grabbing their midday meal.
2. Visit PORTOBELLO MARKET in Notting Hill. It goes on, and on, and on… you’ve never seen anything like it.
3. Walk from Oxford Circus down to REGENT STREET to Picadilly Circus. Jane Austen mentions being on Regent Street in some of her letters to her sister. The architecture as you’re approaching Picadilly Circus is beautiful Edwardian archictecture with columns and arches… you just have to see it.

4. Yes, yes HIGH TEA. If you’ve never done, do the Ritz. It’s kind of amazing.
5. TOWER OF LONDON tour. The guards are the tour guides and they’re great. Lots of interesting historical anecdotes.
6. Finally, my last item of note is walking around COVENT GARDEN and the surrounding shopping streets. So charming – sort of an idyllic London spot.
Have the best time!

and when I say “Londoners” in number 1, I mean British men in suits with chatting away in their sing-song accents. Yay.
1. Gordon’s Wine Bar http://www.gordonswinebar.com/default.php My roommate and her bf are obsessed with it! Great place to spend the late afternoon sipping wine and eating cheese!
2. Strawberry Moons. HILARIOUS club/bar. Lots of locals. And some interesting performances by the staff. (a rendition of a michael jackson mash up included..questionable dancing skills haha) http://www.strawberrymoonsbar.co.uk/
3. While I’m sure youve done this in your previous travels…visit the London Tower. And Please feel free to bring some of the Crown Jewels home for me! THANKS!
the crown jewels at the tower of london were amazing. it is also one of those touristy things that you can knock off your list and it doesn’t take that long. i am not the most patient person…so lines do not work for me.
love this wish they had canada seats but ths is great….love your site it has so much energy. keep up the great work.
Have an amazing time!!! As you know, Sean and I lived there for 4 years, so if you need any good reco’s for restaurants (Zuma, Chutney Mary, Mirabelle, Cheyne Walk Brasserie – and my list could go on and on…) or pubs (Anglesea Arms), let me know!!! I heard you guys are staying at The Berkeley which is right by where we used to live, so you’ll be in good hands. The Blue Bar there is always a scene for sure.
Cheerio!!!
Thank you SO MUCH everyone for your tips…We took you up on a bunch of them and they were all wonderful…I am definitely taking to the blogosphere next time I am planning a vacay, you chicks know what is up!
