Design Crush: Robyn Karp

“Blog” is really a ridiculous word. And I have never felt more ridiculous saying it than the 100 times it escaped my flustered lips whilst I tried to fluff myself up for my first ever blogger party. Arranged by Alaina, Jessica, and Crystal, a bunch of us Chicago Style Bloggers got together on Saturday night for cocktails and I was so nervous I literally almost broke out in hives. From Left to Right: Brigitte of Covet Chicago, David of The Daily Dish + his cute pal, Rachel of The Style Social, Jess of Makeunder My Life, Crystal of The Plush Palate, Me-The One With The Horrible Posture, Alaina of Live Creating YourselfDiane of A Spot of Whimsy, and Nicole of Making It Lovely

As it turns out everyone was just lovely, and besides me completely mooning all of downtown Chicago whilst exiting my charriot, I don’t think I was the embarassingest person in the world. So nice to meet y’all! Thank you for including me. And if any of you other Chicago bloggers want to meet up, let me know! Alaina is planning another parlay shortly.

Speaking of ladies I would like to have cocktails with.

Robyn Karp.

I know we have seen some of her work on the interwebs before, but I have been making out with her portfolio all weekend. In doing Clifford, The Big Red House I have found myself pulling back on my tendency to go for a full on color orgy.I love that Robyn is not afraid of color, but that in her restraint (white walls and neutral backgrounds) it makes the color POP even more.
I absolutely love the way she adds a touch of whimsy into otherwise more grown up spaces. She does favor those girly colors us ladybloggers go bananas for, but I feel like it is fresh and exuberant rather than expectedEven her more neutral palettes seem fresh, I am loving the styling here btw. Those blue glasses and hydrangeas and the artichokes? So cute.Pure, no?I am normally fiercely anti-beige, but I really enjoy all of the tones and textures here.Again, beige, but yummy! Velvet sectional? Yes please.White kitchen=hugs for RobynI love these side chairs, and anything tufted, really. Love the mix between the masculine and feminine elements in this spaceOne of my most favorite dining rooms. Modern table + traditional chairs= rad. And the yellow velvet Host Chairs, to me? Brills.
Cute cute girly room.Pure. Sexy. Glam.Imperial trellis may be one of those blogger love cliches, but I, personally, like it. And nakey Marilyn. Remember when Lindsey tried to recreate this? Gah she’s dumb. What a fab teenlady bedroom. Snuggly biscuit, cozy chair, pure parsons desk? If this chick has her own line? Coolest kid in school, right there!I so love red and pink together. I also love how her color palettes are always just a little bit…off. Shades of the same color that are just a little bit varied, unusual combinations. She might be hitting on the ladybloggers with the girly colors, and lucite, and imperial trellis, but I think the way she plays with color sets Robyn’s work apart. And chick likes velvet as much as I do, clearly.

What do you think of Robyn’s work? Too Domino-blogger cliche? Or does that even matter if the rooms are beauty?

I would love to hear from you! Please leave a comment below!

LOVE her work! She might just be one of my top three faves now that I’ve seen these beautiful rooms are hers. So much to love: the pink chairs in the first picture, the beige living room with the pink flowers (one of my all-time favorites), the chandelier in the dining room w/ the yellow host chairs, and that tufted salmon-colored sofa!! All so amazing.

Glad you had fun! Can’t wait to meet up again.

These images are perfect to start off the week. Her rooms just spell Happy! They all have such cheerful vibes, I usually shy away from overly bright colours but these are gorgeous in a non headache inducing way!

Good stuff, I have a thing with yellow lately, love the fabric of those yellow curtains at the top. Um…I want to come to a chi-bloggers meet up! My real-life friend Diane was there and I didn’t even know about it?! Looks fun!

Love her work! Have seen snippets of it before, but never all at once like that. Her fresh modern take on color is beautiful…bloggery Domino cliche and all, don’t care, I love it! As to the word blog and blogger and even blogger meet up, right there with you…I try to say “site” and then I feel like an affected geek! (Taylor put on a great show, only problem was my girls were a bit too young…and I was a bit too old!)
Anyway…your “get together” looks like loads of fun!

All a bit over the top for my taste to be honest.
I am really into Scandinavian minimalistic / design simplicity at the mo!
