Designery Goodness

Look at me go talking about non baby things. Today is all about design.

I am hitting the Houston streets to do some shopping for Clifford, The Big Red House which is actually for sure going to be photographed in the next few months and published shortly after.

Thank Buddha for that.

Als0, Thank Buddha for Graham Moss and all his inspiring designery vignettes.

You see, I am pretty decent as a decorator on a macro scale…

But when it comes to styling I am kind of a boob.

So I quite enjoy seeing how other people/designers arrange their junk. Not that I could ever replicate such order in my real life…But it is good to have goals and role models--Especially maybe having a more well-rounded group of them than just, let’s say, B.Spears.ALSOSpeaking of designery goodness, do you guys come here for design inspiration or my personal posts? Because I start to feel guilty when I post too much self indulgent junk, but then when I do posts like these no one seems to comment. Which is fine because y’all aren’t a comment-y bunch and I don’t need the constant reassurance (yes I do) but are y’all like YES FINALLY when I get back to business or are you like ugh boorrrrinnnggggg.

I don’t know that your opinion is going to change my posts allll that much, but I figure it’s a blog and a little community interaction is warranted from time to time and I’d like to know!

While I think personal posts are inevitably more enjoyable to read, I like that you have a mix of personal posts and design inspiration. I think they complement each other and make it more than an anonymous pretty-pictures-and-design site, but also more than a personal diary. And I think what makes it most genuine and unique is that you can combine the two by posting about the designs you would choose for yourself.
Also, I think everyone can agree that it would be a crime for you to make it through your pregnancy without enlightening us about the chicest (and most heinous) pregnancy clothes out there.

What makes Peppermintbliss so special is that funny and lovely merge of your personal touch plus selected interior design images. Don’t change that, please!. Xo

I love that you have a mixture of personal and design related posts. What is most important is the way you make me laugh!

  5. deidre February 15, 2011 at 8:34 am

i read peppermint bliss because the way you write is hilarious. i’m still laughing at the “murdery” baby from yesterday. i love the design and personal stuff. i agree, don’t change a thing. this is my first comment :)

  6. my favorite and my best- MFAMB to you February 15, 2011 at 8:36 am

im with rachel. i suffer this problem myself. sometimes i wonder of my blog is even a design blog at all anymore…but then i remember that the REAL all design blogs are so fucking boring that i don’t even read them anymore. rarely. so…there’s that opinion.
i think you’re doing great, kid. keep on keepin on, i always say.

  7. Vashti February 15, 2011 at 8:40 am

I come for both, and love both equally… and probably too much (your design posts are better than most, and your life posts are also exceedingly entertaining… they totally make my day!)

    Hope you’re enjoying Houston!

  8. Nicky February 15, 2011 at 8:44 am

Love your blog! Keep the personal and lovely baby posts coming! We love to read the juice!

  9. Catherine February 15, 2011 at 9:34 am

I’m just echoing everyone else, but yeah, keep doing what your doing. Your personality is fun and exciting, and I love reading about all the awesome stuff going on in your life. But I also come for the decor pics. You tend to share a different perspective than most of the blogs I read, because you’re younger and more fun (okay, more fun than most of them, but some are really fun, just a little older, a la MFAMB). I’d have to credit you for some (much?) of my evolving aesthetic, just because I get so many cool inspiration shot here that I don’t think I’d otherwise have seen. So yeah, thanks for that.

  10. Courtney February 15, 2011 at 10:12 am

Your blog is totally my favorite because you are hilarious! Seriously, I read in my cubicle at work and have to hold back the laughter sometimes. I love the design aspect, especially reading about your own house, but lately I’ve loved reading about the new babe – so don’t stop! Love it, thanks for the great reading!

  11. Heather February 15, 2011 at 10:12 am

I haven’t ever commented before, but I just wanted to say that I love your style of writing and enjoy your personal posts and how you mix in some design here and there. I agree with MFAMB, true Design blogs are boring and you inject a healthy dose of laughter! Congrats on your pregnancy too!

  12. Kelly February 15, 2011 at 10:58 am

More reassurance coming at ya! I love everything about your blog. It’s the perfect mix of life, design, humor, etc. Don’t change a thing!

  13. BaileyH February 15, 2011 at 11:06 am

I love it all!!! By the way, Simon is going to flip that you have a picture of a George Nelson Sunflower Clock! He bought one 2 years ago and it is probably his favorite possession.

  14. Morgan February 15, 2011 at 11:25 am

I love both, but I’m a little biased towards the design stuff. The real reason I visit everyday is for a good laugh! I love your humor and writing style. And I can’t wait to see more of Clifford!

  15. Molly February 15, 2011 at 11:32 am

Bailey – your blog is fabulous whether you are talking about design and interiors (your taste is impecible and very much your own) or the exciting and fun(ny) things going on in your world (baby to be, your hubbsters, cravings, etc.).
You’re following your bliss baby! Do what feels good – isn’t blogging suppose to be about what YOU like and readers follow because they can’t get enough? That’s my definition/feeling at least :)
I’m on pins and needles waiting to see your house so I can drool over it so hurry up, ok?
And if you get bored in Houston come up to Dallas so we can hang!
    xxoo

  16. KateCollinsInterior February 15, 2011 at 11:33 am

I really love both! I think you are hilarious and I so enjoy reading your true, authentic voice every day. That’s a tough thing to pull off, as a small blogger, I sometimes feel I lose my own voice and it’s easier to sound more like me when I get more personal, like today’s post.

I really love your blog and I look forward to it every day.

BTW, I can’t style either. And I’m late to the game on your blog…what the Clifford house? Is that your own home? Congrats on getting published!!

  17. Kate February 15, 2011 at 11:55 am

I’m new around here, and you have quickly become one of my fav blogs, for many of the reasons noted above – you’re hilar, have great taste/style, and give me good ideas/things to aspire to in my home. Keep it up and thanks!
PS: Your wedding was truly the most f-ing unbelievable thing – AH-MAZING!! High five.

  18. lynn February 15, 2011 at 12:17 pm

The blend of both is wonderful. I read your blog everyday and this is the first time I’ve commented just ’cause you asked.
    hugs…

  19. carol February 15, 2011 at 12:21 pm

Let’s do my guest room and bath…I’m just worrried that the before pictures might shock your dear readers.

  20. alison@MLHP February 15, 2011 at 12:21 pm

I think you have the perfect mix, B – it’s your spin, your voice that I come here for, so the topic is sorta less important.

  21. Anna February 15, 2011 at 12:21 pm

A colleague shared your site with me — and I passed it along to a friend who is looking for design inspiration for her nursery, so your baby posts are quite helpful! Thank you!

  22. Suzanne February 15, 2011 at 12:25 pm

I come for the “personal” posts as well. But even when you post the designer-y stuff, you still put your own personal spin on it, so I’m cool with those too. I love your blog, and I am definitely looking forward to hearing all you have to say about being preggo. You are HI-larious, so don’t worry your pretty little head. :)

  23. Liz February 15, 2011 at 12:28 pm

i like the mix….and this post was amaze balls

  24. Sara February 15, 2011 at 12:29 pm

Don’t change a thing! I love love luuuuuve all the personal tidbits they make me smile and think ugh this girl is way cool. But the designery bits are equally as fab. Love how you post no matter the topic, keep it comin’

  25. Natalie February 15, 2011 at 12:55 pm

To further reinforce the other posters- keep on doing a mix! I especially love this post; I have so many artsy knick-knacks and pictures that I’m always rearranging!

  26. Brit February 15, 2011 at 1:17 pm

I read your blog because it makes me laugh out loud. You could write about anything (and you pretty much do, which is what we all love) and it is funny, enjoyable and witty. Love all of it Bailey.

    B

  27. Robin February 15, 2011 at 2:12 pm

Everything you write is great, but I do tend to look forward to the personal posts more. Probably because I’m not a designer. :) Keep doing what you’re doing!

  28. Jenny February 15, 2011 at 2:33 pm

Your postings are so great whether they are personal or design related I think a healthy mix of both is just perfect. I know I would be terribly disappointed if we stopped hearing about your hilarious and sweet preggo updates or your design inspirations! Keep up the good work I look forward to your postings every morning!

  29. Maggie February 15, 2011 at 4:06 pm

You sure found a way to get us to comment on a design post! ;)

I agree with everyone else- the combination of your personal stories and your inspiration for design is why I’m such a fan. I never remember to search for design images myself so it is nice to have beautiful things found for me. I also LOVE your sense of humor. Keep it up, Bailey! :D

  30. SaraSue February 15, 2011 at 4:25 pm

I like both b/c your dang funny and b/c I am interior designed challenged…and need all the inspiration I can get.
I can’t wait to see the “bebe’s” room!

  31. Ashley February 15, 2011 at 5:16 pm

What I have found about every blog I love and check on a regular basis is I feel like they’re my online friends (trust I’m not crazy, and I have real friends too!…but we gossip a lot about our online friends). I digress. Even though the posts I follow have a purpose (design, baking, cooking, home renovation and DIY projects)–all the good ones let me into their lives. It’s fun! We like it when you keep it personal. Isn’t that what a blog is all about? Keep it up!

  32. Jennifer February 15, 2011 at 5:17 pm

I love both! I always look forward to your blog for your wit and design. I agree with MFAMB (whom I love as well), you don’t want to be boring.

  33. Iris February 15, 2011 at 5:29 pm

I have to be honest and say that when I tell someone about your blog I start off by saying “This chick is HILARIOUS and seems to have so much fun in her life!” and I obviously label it as a design blog. It is super fun to hear about someone else’s adventures but you always seem to find such beautiful inspiration in designs to share with everyone! I like it all!

  34. Jen February 15, 2011 at 6:16 pm

i actually think that writing personal and interior design related stuff on your blog is just fine. i like to think i do that on my own, it brings an element of a realness to ones blog.

Woah there are lots of comments, this is awesome. I’m so proud of you lady! While the personal posts make me smile because I’m like, “oh yeah, I know her….” I NEED the design posts in a selfish way because you are helping to educate me about interior decorating, style, etc! I dream of the day you can come help me furnish my own humble abode. Keep up the good work and call me when you come to Austin! xoxo

  36. Jenny February 15, 2011 at 6:51 pm

Hi! This is my first time commenting as I am a fairly new reader but I thought I would agree with the above comments. I really enjoy your writing style and appreciate all of your chic posts whether personal or design. Keep it up! You’re quickly becoming one of my daily reads!

  37. Mackenzie {Design Darling} February 15, 2011 at 6:57 pm

I lurve both kinds of posts and will try to comment more on the designer-y ones. That silhouette vignette is amazeballs.

  38. Mary Kay February 15, 2011 at 7:21 pm

Hi, this is the first time I’ve commented. I just wanted you to know I love your blog in whatever form you are doing your thing. Personal, design, cooking baby, pete, wedding, travel…whatever you choose you are hysterical and real and inspiring. Keep on keeping on and don’t doubt yourself for a moment. You are quickly becoming one of the most interesting bloggers out there!

  39. lauren February 15, 2011 at 8:35 pm

    Dear Bailey,

I’ve never been to your blog before tonight. Shame. However, tonight I was eating with my bloggy friend, Helena, of A Diary of Lovely. We were discussing the same thing when she mentioned you had just blogged on this topic.

I feel you! People want the technical stuff {for me, travel tips, cheap finds, etc.}.. but they only want it from a personality they like… However, I can’t for the life of me figure out the consistency on comments.

Either way- you’re hilarious. If you lived in London, I would insist you come hang out with the bloggers here. And you could talk personal all night long. We’d love it! :)

    xo- Lauren

  40. Katie February 15, 2011 at 9:54 pm

I love your blog to bits! Both the design parts and the personal posts are a joy to read every day! This blog is perfect just as it is.

  41. Kathryn February 15, 2011 at 11:27 pm

The personal posts are the reason I still read your blog, unlike all those other design blogs I subscribed to a year or so ago. But if it was purely personal I would feel weird and stalkerish wanting to read it.
So don’t change! The mix is good :)

  42. Jessi February 16, 2011 at 9:49 am

I just started reading your blog, and I love, love, LOVE that you combine design-y eye candy w/ fun personal stuff… that’s why it just got moved it to the top of my blog bookmarks! Keep up the good work! =)

  43. lisa February 16, 2011 at 10:32 am

I agree with what everyone posted. I come to your blog for both. I like the design elements and that your commentary is so funny. When I come to your blog and you haven’t posted something new I am totally dissapointed! Which sometimes makes me feel like a stalker! :)
And I tell my friends the funny things you say so totally keep the peronsality in it! I loved “I have 72 barrettes”!Ha ha ha…you are hilarious. Congrats on the baby. XXOO

  44. Emmy February 16, 2011 at 11:39 am

I would argue that you please just do exactly what you’re doing – as everyone else has said, you are hilarious and reading about your personal life intermixed w/ design inspiration is fantastic. I love it all! Congrats on the baby, that is very exciting news!

  45. Katie@TSS February 16, 2011 at 11:42 am

First time commenter here – I love both posts. Your take on being pregs is hilar and I love seeing what you’re doing with your house/business. Keep it all coming! Congrats on the babe!

  46. Emily February 16, 2011 at 3:10 pm

The design posts are fun to look at and dream about… but your personal posts are HILARIOUS and engaging. Sometimes we all just need a little laugh.

  47. carver February 16, 2011 at 4:03 pm

i just found your blog through my cousin and through mackenzie of design darling, and i am IN LOOOOOOVE. oh my gosh. and your wedding looks like it was possibly the coolest most amazing thing ever!!! i love your design posts but love your hilarious personal posts too. i actually read some of these in class the other day and had to try really hard to not laugh out loud. keep on keepin on – don’t change a good thing!

  48. adrienne February 25, 2011 at 2:58 am

I’ve never ever commented before, but you got me with this post. Don’t change anything at all because as your fan, I love it all! You have great taste and inspire me but your personal posts show a little side of you and are always entertaining and make me smile! Loves it all!
