Thank you all for your comments and emails yesterday! So much support and so many great tips. So far I have Tracy Anderson post-pregnancy, Tracy Anderson cardio, and Slim in 6 DVDs I am going to do during Gracie’s naps, and I am going to look into Bar Method classes in Austin. I also signed up for Weight Watchers online, and figure these Friday check ins can be like my meetings!
So where are we today? Well my goal is 35 pounds, and I have lost 2…so 33 to go!
The timeline for this by the way is June 1. I think that is enough time to be realistic, but it’s close enough that I need to have a sense of urgency and stick to a program.
I have read each and every comment and email and am going to look into as many of your tips as I can, and will report back on their effectiveness and whether or not they were doable or made me feel murdery.
If any of you are following along feel free to use the comments as your “weight watchers” check in as well!
Now if Britney, Beyonce, Rihanna etc. could release some new music videos on iTunes for me to watch at the gym, that would be suppeerrr.
Although this video by impossibly cute pixie creature Rachel Bilson is plenty of motivation for today.
Happy Weekend, everyone!

I would love to hear from you! Please leave a comment below!
I heard a great quote/ idea a few days ago. It said “you will notice your body change in 4 weeks, your fiends will notice in 8 weeks and everyone else will notice in 12 weeks. Give yourself 12 weeks!” Stick with it! Also, consider trying P90x. That is what I do and I love the variety.
I am actually do the Weight Watchers meetings and they are WONDERFUL! You really should consider actually going. It’s such an accountability thing. I know if I’ve got to go weigh in, I’m going to make better decisions. Plus, you get to hang out with people that are having the same struggles as you, and learn recipes that will be Oh So Much Help!
One I heard last night: if you are a mashed potato lover, boil 2 potatoes with a head of cauliflower and then mash them up together, you can’t tell the difference but your waist line will!
I know a lot of people have mentioned bar method, but I prefer Pure Barre. I think Pure Barre is a harder workout and obviously a harder workout is more calories burned! They have an Austin location. I took classes from the owner when she was a teacher in Nashville and really liked her! Try all the barre classes if you can because they are all lots to choose from and people like different ones for different reasons!
So happy that you’re doing this! My goal is 35 lbs as well – a special thanks to harsh infertility drugs and feeling sorry for myself for way too long. I have joined Weight Watchers, signed up at a gym, and meet with a personal trainer once a week. So far, I’ve lost 5 lbs. I can’t really tell anywhere but my boobies but it’s a start. Also, a friend of mine uses a workout DVD that you do w/ your baby. She loves it. Will try to get the name of it. I’ll be here to cheer you on!
Pure Barre is such a great workout!! It completely transformed my body like no other workout has
I have used pure barre also. It is amazing. I thought my legs would give out after the first session, but in a good way. (Promise) Can I jump on your humiliation diet bandwagon and put up my weight so I feel bad about it? (I do) It was 179.2 this morning. The horror!!
I’ve been DYING to do the bar method, but have been too nervous to go solo! Let’s go!
Get a Vitamix!! 10x more powerful than a regular blender and so much easier to clean!! You can make juices, hot soups, food for gracie (once she decide’s to eat mommy’s food) – anything!! Greatest ever!! They were selling them at Whole Foods, but I think that was just a special promo. I got the shorter one to fit under my counter and I looooove it. Good luck this weekend. Sounds like a Bravo marathon is in your future!!
I can’t recommend Weight Watchers highly enough! While I’m sure the online system is great, I agree with Elizabeth that being an in-person member has had shocking benefits for me. It’s like a food-lovers self help group and the accountability adds to my determination. I tell people that WW is helping me make “better bad decisions”! Plus, you get star stickers! It’s amazing how much impact a “Bravo” star or a “5 lbs” star can have on your self-esteem! You’re a beautiful girl Bailey, you can do it!
Hi Bailey,
I gave up alcohol for the month of January and have seen my holiday weight fall off. Good luck!
Yaaaayyy!! So glad you’re trying out Tracy!!! One thing I forgot to mention… You might want to make sure Gracie steers clear of your Tracy Anderson workouts. As much as I love her, I also yell profanities at her a lot. Which is why my new years resolution to lose weight and stop cussing so much isn’t really panning out… Good luck!!
I really like Tracy Anderson’s mat video too, though she kind of makes strange faces and seems bored in it. Also, make sure to try Define when you’re in Houston if you haven’t yet. You will love Hank
Best of luck!
I bought the 90-day Tracy Anderson Method set about a year ago, and although I didn’t follow it “to the T,” I thought it was solid.
No, I did not become Gwyneth, but I did lean (not bulk) up. I highly recommend it, and will be going back to it when we get back to Brazil next week. Also, 90% of it is what you put in your face. I have yet to plug that reality into my life….
Good luck – we’ll be here to cheer you on, and lift you up.
Hey Bailey! I dropped 30 lbs after going a little cray in college (Aka eating pizza for 3am snacks and existing off of alcohol.) A GREAT way to rid yourself of cravings, reset your body & really learn how to eat and maintain, look into the South Beach diet. It seems really hard, but it isn’t as tough as it seems. It’s energizing and produces some great results. Hope this helps! (PS – 5-10 lbs for me to go until my wedding in June, so I’m right there with you!)
I watched that video yesterday and almost peed myself I was laughing so hard
Hey Bailey! I think what you’re doing is awesome. Accountability and support are key. A couple years ago I had a really bad breakup and gained back the 25 lbs I had lost after college. On top of being super devastated over the breakup, I was so depressed over my body image. This might sound silly, but reading Bethenny Frankel’s book actually really really helped me start thinking differently about what I was eating. Since then I’ve lost all the weight, slowly but surely. Obviously it wasn’t just her book that helped, but eating better and exercise (oh and a new job and new boyfriend:))… but give it a try!!! It can’t hurt! Best of luck to you, I know you can do it! You’re just plain awesome.
I started weight watchers this week! I am going to post something like this too each week! You should get a linky party or something going! (Or I can if you would like to participate/support/promote it? I don’t have a ton of followers). Also, I am reading Bethany Frankel’s book “Naturally Thin” which has been really good for my state of mind. My best friend read it after she gained all the weight back she had lost for her wedding and she lost more that she did for the wedding without even sticking to strict diet. Let me know if you are interested in a linky party!
ahh slim in 6! i still have mine from when we bought it senior year of college! i was actually just thinking about pulling that puppy out – it’s a great firmer for your bum!! thanks for the inspiration xoxo
Yay, Bailey! I can’t wait to follow along and hear more all about it and what tips you find work for you.
Also–my SIL does mommy meet-ups with friends at the zoo and other outdoor areas where they wear workout gear and walk with their babies and chat so they hardly realize they’re working out. I’m sure it’d be fun on top of what you’re doing.
I love what you’re doing here, I think you’re both lucky and brave to be able to use your blog as a way to keep yourself honest/on track.
I started WW the first week of Jan, but I haven’t been able to track/weigh in since I started because I’ve been very sick now for 10 days (possibly with pneumonia). Hopefully I’ll be better soon. One good thing to come out of this illness will hopefully be a weight-loss kick-start!
I also did WW last year, and lost nearly 30 lbs. One tip I can offer is using smaller utensils. I would treat myself to ice cream every now and then, but I’d eat it from a ramekin with a baby spoon – it’d be every bit as good, last a lot longer, and not be too bad for my waistline!
Anyway, I have much more to lose than you do, but I’m really looking forward to following you on your journey. I find others’ successes very inspiring!
Yay for trying TA! I love her workouts – though I must say if you weren’t previously a dancer don’t get discouraged with the dance cardio…it took me awhile of feeling like I had two left feet to catch on, but it is a lot of fun and a GREAT TOUGH workout! I also usually only do it for about half the time since I dont really have an hour to devote to cardio. I also love the physique 57 workout dvds, which is like the bar method, and easy enough to do at home. Goodluck!!
Bailey, I still teach Define…just like Bar Method in Austin. It is really great to pair with some form of cardio. It will transform your bod, but if you are like me, you prob need cardio to shed the actual lb-age. It will really help you find your abdominal muscles again after babyla. Also, you just leave feeling good, taking the time to do something for yourself. (Plus you get savasana at end!) Also, the book The GI (glycemic index) diet by Rick Gallop is great. It is based on the theory of green, yellow and red light foods. Pretty interesting…like would you know that melons are red light fruit, but apples, grapes, oranges, peaches are green light? Kiwi, mango are yellow light.
Anne,
You sleep 10 feet away from me, and I had no idea you’d become a dietitian.
I’d have to suggest sharpie-ing the most unbecoming parts of your bod and then crying in front of a mirror. That and light purging.

Girl. YOU ROCK. I admire you for throwing it all out there – I’ll be right there with you working on my own, less humiliating diet. Keep it up!
That’s definitely a reasonable goal. I lost 30 lbs. on WW (online) in 6 months – but I really slacked on the working out, so that was mostly all just changing eating habits. You’ll do it a lot faster than I did if you work out, too. Skinnytaste.com has excellent WW recipes. A Vitatop (the chocolate & corn ones are my fave) with 2 slices of turkey bacon, a glass of skim milk & 1/2 a grapefruit is my go-to breakfast & only 7 pts.
This seems like common sense, but the healthier the choices you make, the more you will lose. The points are sometimes negative in that way – you start to think in terms of points, not smart choices. For example, an 8 oz glass of skim milk & a grande skinny Peppermint Mocha are both 3 pts. Swapping a daily glass of milk for the mocha will not give you the same results. I learned that lesson the hard way. Once a week is fine, 7 days a week is not.
Hi Bailey!
Longtime listener, first time caller
I started WW online right before the new year and I’ve lost 6 lbs. It turns out not eating EVERYTHING working out works! But seriously, have cut way back on desserts, bread, and booze, the weekly weigh in is keeping my accountable. My goal is to drop another 15 lbs by June when I’m getting married. If you ever want to email back and forth with another WWer, holler at me.
XO
Laura
this might sound funny, but I really do swear by this jane fonda workout tape from like 1985. it’s an excellent form of cardio, and seriously works wonders. when I need to burn fat, nothing melts it off faster than this for some reason. haha anyway best of luck to you on your journey!
