Humiliation Diet: Week 5

Y’all know the deal by now…5 weeks ago I started checking in with you guys every Friday as a part of my humiliation/accountability diet. I started with 35 pounds to lose, last week I refused to acknowledge my weight as a birthday present to myself, and this week I am down 4 pounds!

Which, although is not as far as I would have liked to have come in 5 weeks, is still good progress. And I finally feel settled into a routine or…wait for it…lifestyle.

For lent instead of giving something up, I have decided to take on working out every single day. Even if it is just 20 minutes with Jillian, or the abs portion of Tracy, doing something physical every day seems to keep my other habits in line. This week I have been doing two a days, Jillian or Tracy in the morning, and then either an hour at the gym or a walk with Gracie in the afternoon.  I have a lot more energy and am much happier.

Which is great because Pete has been studying crazy hours preparing for the Bar which he is taking next week (he couldn’t take it as planned this July because the Doctors were afraid Gracie would arrive in the middle) and has been minimally helpful/fun around the house. All work and no play makes your only child needy wife very grumpy.

And even though it is only 4 pounds, I can tell my body is changing. I am not going to describe to you the gross rolls that are no longer rollin’ or sags that are less saggy, but it is happening. Next week I am going to share some of the recipes that we have enjoyed, and I am also doing a body comp at the gym to get a better idea of the muscle gain/fat loss situation which is always really motivating.

How are you guys doing? Any new tips/recipes? Progress? The best part about this is knowing y’all are working along with me, so don’t abandon me now mister sisters!

I’m way impressed with the two-a-day strategy, especially if it involves Jillian Michaels. I bought her Ripped in 30 DVD and thought oh NBD, I can do this every morning for a month before work. Ok yeah, that plan that lasted 17 minutes. (And I think the first workout was 20 minutes). So, two questions: (1) is it just me, or is it really hard to endure Jillian? (2) How do you manage your hair when you work out 2x/day? I find it exhausting to find time to blow-dry/straighten/style my hair every day. Do you have any tips/tricks for keeping it tame and shiny in a sweat-free way?

Oh and as far as recipes go, have you tried kale chips? I admit I kind of hate them a little bit, but they’re a really good alternative when you need something chip-like.

PS: good luck to Pete on the bar!

Good job on the weight loss, Bailey! And kudos on the 2 a day, that is true dedication! I just started reading the book “French Women Don’t Get Fat” and it is a really funny and informative read about weight loss philosophy. The author advocates not for crash dieting or fads, but for changing the relationship you have with food. She talks about eating everything you want, but in moderation, and in a way that retrains you to love everything you eat and savor every meal. It is a GREAT read and you should check it out!

Also good luck to Pete on the bar…I’m sitting in my law library right now and there are already a few students toting their study guides around camped out at desks here. Yikes!

    Great job Bailey!

I made this last night http://www.aveceric.com/2011/05/12/chicken-paillard-with-tomatoes-fennel-and-olives/ and thought it was really good and didn’t taste like something I would eat on a “diet”. My husband really liked it also – double score! I used half the amount of olive oil the recipe called for. The tomatoes/fennel/olive/etc. combo would also be really good over a white flakey fish. Have a great weekend!

I am not sure if tomatoes are in season this time of year in Texas (they are not in the Northeast!), use cherry tomatoes diced!

Bailey, I am friends with the twins and I am a fan of all your witty comments!! I wanted to send you this blog for some yummy receipes http://heathereatsalmondbutter.com/ – Her Mushroom Stroganoff is divine http://heathereatsalmondbutter.com/2010/04/21/creamy-dreamy-mushrooms/ I add bison meat to it and dont add the sour cream. Ryan likes it and it pretty easy – I havent tried any of the other receipes but thought I share one I have tested- Best of luck- working out is all about routines and I always tell people if you can get over the first two weeks of hell (getting started), then you are set.

the website is pretty awesome. some stuff is health conscious, some not so much-it’s a good balance though! Keep up the great work.

Way to go, Bailey! I actually thought of you on Ash Wednesday because I remembered your post from last year, saying that you decided since you’d already given up alcohol and your body, that was enough. It was so funny. :)
I’m really bad at sticking with a gym schedule (it’s part of the same reason that I quit WW – I just don’t like having to count things, like points or minutes on a treadmill or reps or anything), but I’ve gotten into a running routine. Suffice it to say that I’m hungry…a LOT. I have a huge cache of super healthy recipes stored on Pinterest (pinterest.com/kelseroo/really-good-food) if you want some fresh ideas.
Good luck to Pete! My hubby-to-be took the MCAT last summer, and while it’s nowhere near as hard as the Bar, it took a toll on me because I had to pick up his slack for a couple of months. I’m sure you’re ready for him to be done with this stupid exam. Hang in there!

Four pounds is awesome! My scale had me down a pound last week, but it seems to be back this week. I’ll blame it on Carnaval festivities (of which we took no part in, save a couple martini nights)

Today, Boot Camp class reminded me of muscles I forgot I have, so yes, we are SO right there with you! Two-a-days, though….sheesh, gurrl!

I’ve been meaning to tell you to check out Heather Fleming’s blog (now Heather Warner) at http://lilybeans.wordpress.com. She did a big lifestyle change a few years ago and is always posting great recipes and ways of incorporating healthy things into your diet. She’s also working on becoming a certified health coach so she really is a wealth of information. And big props on your loss!

Awesome job! Isn’t it nice when you start to see your body changing from all the hard work? A few years ago I was working out with a trainer 3x a week, running, and eating super healthy…and then I started a new job with no gym anywhere nearby and just let it all go – I am so mad at myself for that! I am 7 weeks into my diet – my goal is to lose 25 lbs. and start exercising again to get back to my happy weight and get fit again. I am down 7 lbs. which is good although the last couple of weeks have been a little rocky. Plus, a couple of pairs of pants that were almost NSFW tight at the beginning are now comfortably loose, which is awesome.

I have been keeping track of calories through the Lose It! app on my iphone, which I LOVE, and which keeps me accountable. I like it because I cook a lot and I can actually plug in a random recipe and know how many calories are in each serving. I’ve also been getting back into running by doing the Couch to 5k program with a friend, doing Pilates 1 day/week, and doing the Jillian “No More Trouble Zones” DVD…although I’ve only been able to make it through the first 15 mins. of the DVD so far; that woman is craaazy.

For me, unfortunately, I had to pretty much cut out the alcohol – I have 1 glass of wine on my girls’ night Thursdays, and 1 glass of wine (okay, maybe 2) on another weekend night, and that’s it. It sucks. But I tried first with keeping the cocktails in and tweaking other things in my diet, and I just wasn’t losing any weight.

That is great on losing 4 pounds! It is hard work but I keep telling myself that it is worth it. These little girls (i have a daughter too) need healthy mamas to run around after them. I have been taking the “barre” classes and I will say that I have NEVER taken anything like it nor seen results in ways I haven’t seen before. Def worth checking out if you can. Keep up the good work and keep posting on this stuff….it keeps me thinking about my own goals :)

Wow Bailey you are doing it! Its hella difficult doing anything besides mom and domestic duties at this stage so you are a rockstar! I am scared of trying my jillian dvd-its the abs one. You are motivating me to try it. I am also motivated by the thought of buying some fancy denim if my tummy gets flat. I have my eye on skinny jbrands. I love Gracie’s fashion posts-little girls clothing is unreal. I cant imagine looking cute in the 80′s when I was a kid. It just wasn’t possible. I laughed a lot with the american doll pic. Also your trim color looks so yummy in your playroom. The color palette is awesome and the overhead light is so fun.

Just found your website through pinterest (your guest room with the FABULOUS longhorns!!) and love you! I too am attempting to loose my baby (#3!) weight…a whole 30 pounds too. I’ve done it before (after each kid), so I know it’s do-able, just hard! And until I’m done breastfeeding I find the weight sticks around. This time I got a trainer…good for you to use your blog as a check in!

    1) Way to go girl! I really think being able to tell the changes on your body is way more important than the number on the scale. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat. :)
    2) I saw a comment about the book French Women Don’t Get Fat, and I totally second it! I read it just about once a year, it is such a good book for thinking of healthy living as a lifestyle.
    3) I recently couldn’t work out for 5 weeks due to surgery, and today is my first day back to exercise, so I am totally joining you on this journey!
    4) Good luck to Pete! :)
