So, you guys have mentioned paleo diets, HCG, crossfit, weight watchers, etc.
But guys, none of that is it.
THIS is IT!!!!!
The Hook diet.
And if any of y’all haven’t seen Hook, please excuse yourselves now.
The plan is basically to either play this video constantly, or pay your neighborhood children to put you on this program.
And then only eat imaginary food.
And guess what…
SKINNY!
BANGARANG!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, but for serious. This week I am limiting myself to 14 drinks per week, as per Jess’s suggestion. Which sounds like lots of drinks. But you haven no idea. I can put away a cocktail.
Which brings us to our point today.
I started out with 35 pounds to lose, last week I was down 3, this week I am down 2. No, not from last week. That would be awesome. But I seem to have gained a pound. WTF?? I am hoping maybe it’s just some muscles coming in on my soon to be ripped bod, but it is disheartening all the same.
Ugh, why is this so SLOW!?!? I ordered JillianBitchShred…Trying it this week.
Last week I also did Tracy Anderson Cardio and super hated it. I mean, is she for real? Who has time to learn dance moves that aren’t Britney? Not this chick. I re-introduced myself to Slim in 6 and remember why I loved it. Its TA esque in that it is a lot of working with your own body weight, but you get a timer. Like each segment is timed 3 minutes…10 minutes left in the whole video etc. Which is motivating.
Also, I have been getting the hang of Weight Watchers a bit better using the LiveStrong and LoseIt apps y’all rec’d to track the nutrition of what I am eating. The thing I like about Weight Watchers is that it is helping me take the emotion out of eating. Like if you tell me I cannot have ANY dessert or ice cream…well, I mean, can you imagine anything ruder than telling someone they can’t have any ice cream at all? I am liable to get a little really depressed. And, unfortunately, it is the kind of depression that can only be cured by a lot of ice cream. It’s a vicious cycle. But with WW I have learned that let’s say, oh, a Girl Scout Thin Mint is only 1 point. So I can have a couple of those instead and not be sads.
Clearly, as I mentioned, I have issues with food. And I feel like WW might help me with the heart of those issues, which would be fantastic.
Ok, enough about me, have any of y’all been more successful this week?

I would love to hear from you! Please leave a comment below!
I’m still doing weight watchers meeting and REALLY enjoy that time each week where I get to be around people who are having the same struggles as I am. I also live by the myfitnesspal app.
Here’s my breakdown:
Week 1- down 2.2
Week 2- down 2.2
Week 3- up 2.4
Week 4- down 3.4
So total down 5.4 in one month. I’m 2 lbs from my 5% lost so that’s a rainbow/silver lining/glitter moment!
YAY for sticking with it!
I’ve been meaning to comment since you began this humiliation diet, but you need to take it easy on yourself! First of all, your body and mind went through a lot in a little over a year – more than most people go through in a lifetime. You got married, got pregnant, received a scary diagnosis for your baby, moved to another state, bought a house, gave birth by major surgery, endured a number of surgeries on your baby, and moved again. (and that is just a list of stuff you shared on your blog.) Your body and mind have been through a lot, and in order to truly convey a healthy body image for your daughter, you need to forgive yourself. I can’t imagine going through that kind of stress in such a condensed time period!
And second of all, a healthy rate of weight loss is one lb
per week. Since you gained 70 lbs with your pregnancy, you should give yourself about a year and 4 months to lose it. Don’t rush this or give yourself an unhealthy goal date for your weight loss – this is about maintaining a healthy life!
I’m not usually a coddler (is that a word?) but I hope you’ll take this to heart and not beat yourself up if you have a week like this where your weight swings in the wrong direction.
I have definitely struggled this week. Too much wine and carb overload – I didn’t even attempt to log my WW points b/c I knew it would just be too depressing. I am down 8 lbs from where I started – so 32 lbs to go! I have used Jillian’s Shred before and it’s high time we get reacquainted. She’s a bitch and your body will hate you but it works. Good job on sticking with this! YOU CAN DO IT!
And I LOVE Sarah’s post. You HAVE gone through some major stuff and should give yourself credit for staying sane!
I’m “thirding” Sarah’s advice. She’s right on.
And I know you need a way to measure success, but try not to focus so much on the pounds. There are just too many reasons for those to fluctuate, many of which you have little or no control over. Focus on the way your clothes fit and how much energy you feel.
Keep doin what you do, Bailey!
hi! So I’m not a big ‘poster’ of blogs, but I just went through a process like this and thought some insight might be helpful.
back story, i was a college athlete, so I could anything i want because i was training 5 hours a day i was still fit. ah youth.
It’s taken me about 5 years but I learned two things. 30 minutes a day is a good work out, but i have to follow two rules.
1) I can’t do anything my body is used to doing and is easy for me.
2) intervals, intervals, intervals.
For food. definitely CAN’T eat anything I want anymore, but i tried six small meals and calorie cutting and I just wasn’t good with being told I can’t do something.
My fiance and I switched to a mostly vegan diet. We try to use no oils too (Dr. Esselstein is the name of the Cardiologist who created it). We’re not too strict we go out and eat good fresh food and meat about twice a week, but I don’t have to count…and I dont have to watch portion size, and I end up eating as I should anyway…and I feel great.
Just thought I’d give my two cents!
Have a good one!
Bailey,
I think you are one talented designer and I love your blog! You are one of the top blogs on my reader. I rarely post comments but I wanted to tell you about a jump start plan that helped me lose 4 lbs my first week! I work approx 50 hours a week in a successful home stage and design business so I don’t have much time to work out or cook. I wanted to lose some weight before we started trying for el baby and it worked! I am prego (shhhh!) and am totally going to pick up this diet again when I am trying to lose the baby weight. http://nataliejillfitness.com/products/7-day-jump-start/ she is my cousin so I know she practices what she preaches. Good luck with your weight loss journey I know it’s frustrating and keep the blogs rolling! xoxo
Hi! I have a great idea…maybe you already said something about it in previous posts, but I think you should walk and run!!!! Running sounds daunting at first but if you build up slowly and smartly, I promise pounds will melt off of you! Also at first running is super hard but if you walk/run and build up to just running I PROMISE it is doable and enjoyable!! I used to hate and now I cant live without it!
ALSO check out Toneitup.com. They girls are super beautiful and might make any girl jealous, but they have awesome awesome workouts that are SHORT and totally doable in your home. I absolutely love them and they have most of their workouts on their youtube channel! I think I have your answers in this comment. haha. I am a personal trainer, and have definitely had some food/ workout struggles but these things have TOTALLY helped me! I definitely have a better “relationship” with food now too.
Try it out!!! I dont know you but I believe in you, and you will feel so much better and less depressed. Promise. One more thing. I love skinny girl margaritas! theyre so good with just a tiny splash of grenadine!
xo!
I just read Sarah’s comment too! SO true!! You have had so much going on! Give yourself grace!! (seriously though)
I started weight watchers this week. But since I’m not going to the meetings, it was basically like paying $56 for an app for three months. However, it’s been really helpful. I’m kind of confused on the cheat points but so far I really like it. We shall see on weigh in day Monday!
Ok you have got to go to http://www.emilybites.com/ and check out her WW recipes! They are awesome, and then have you tried the Smart One’s sundaes? They totally rock my world and are only 4 teeny tiny points! Enjoy!
I have lost nothing and my boyfriend has lost 6 lbs. I honestly cannot think of anything more annoying. I’m using the MyFitnessPal app on my iPhone and it is helping me with my emotional eating as well. What I like best about it is at the end of the day when I “complete the day” it tells me what weight I will be at in 5 weeks time if I continue to eat the way I did that day. Plus, I can always put in what I’m THINKING about eating before I actually eat it to see what the effect will be on my calories that day. Dieting sucks.
I would suggest getting a pedometer. You know where they say that walking 10,000 steps will help to lose the weight. It really gives you something to strive for. I use one every day, when I am at work, making copies, I will walk up and down the hallway just to accumulate my steps. Maybe while holding Baby G trying to get her to doze off, you walk around the room, accumulate your steps! Any other exercies you do through the course of the day is bonus! Plus, the pedometer will tell you how many calories you have burned that day is well. Somthing to think about! Stay positive, you can do it! Just think, they weight did not appear overnight and will not disappear that quickly either. Until Woman invents a magic pill…..still waiting for that one!
100% agree with Sarah. Love you Bails!
i am on day 3 down about 2 lbs. i am going to New York in 36 days so i set a smart goal to lose 2 lbs a week for the next 5 weeks (36 days). i am eliminating all soda, sugar, bread from my diet for the next 36 days. i plan to be at a minimum of 10 lbs lighter when i step on the plane (hopefully more like 15 if i average 3 lbs a week). you can check out my post here for specifics: http://justbecauseimjess.blogspot.com/2012/02/month-of-love.html
good luck to you! i am following along!
Okay, so here’s the business:
Are you still breastfeeding? At all? They say that breastfeeding takes the weight off, and yes it burns calories, but it mainly keeps fat on as a reserve because you’re burning so many. I know some people lose the weight while bf, but most of us have to wait until it’s over. After I finally finished (a year later), the weight came off so much more easily (not easily, just MORE easily). This is not to discourage bf, but to realize that you might be one of those people who stays the same
size during no matter what they do. Hope this helps.
(If you’re not bf anymore, please know I think there’s something to the magical year after you have the baby, too. It takes your body a while to settle after 9 months of that trauma!)
So – my goal was to only have dessert once a week…not that hard right? Well at work, we had birthday cake 2 days in a row AND THEN someone brought doughnuts. Gourmet doughnuts. As in I had 1/2 of a Reese’s doughnut. Amazing. Informed my boss of the 1 dessert a week thing, and he said “So, you’re good for like 3 weeks?” Asshat. Thought you would laugh. Losing weight is hard.
Start your day with an egg cooked any ‘ol way and it’ll fill you until lunch. Then, strap baby girl in her stroller and walk fast in the morning and after dinner everyday. Trust. I live in the city and I’ve always been a pedestrian – walk everywhere I go, but ten years ago I got a puppy and I was forced to walk routinely everyday with purpose. In a matter of months I dropped 20 pounds without effort or changing the way I eat. So much easier (and better) than counting calories! Plus the added bonus is that you and baby girl with get to enjoy the outdoors together!
Hey Bailey! Your “diet” posts are so hilarious and honest! I’ve been on a workout/be healthy kick for 6 months now and have lost 20 pounds, but for the first few months I hardly saw any weight loss. So don’t be discouraged!! It can be a bit of a slow process. In the beginning I actually found it frustrating to weigh myself every week and not see progress so I just kept with it, but only weighed myself every couple of weeks or so.
I think you are brave and doing fantastic. I am currently doing the 30 day shred, still working in workout 1 and getting my butt kicked! those 27 minutes are hard and scary, but worth it. I feel stronger (not leaner yet) but I can feel a difference and it has been a week. As far as diets go my boyfriend and I are talking going Paleo, doing a 30 day challenge and seeing how it goes. Paleo makes the most sense to me (I am an anthropologist and the idea of eating like the first humans= duh!). It is scary knowing things I love, ie gluten, grains, dairy are frowned upon is hard. But the silver lining is more energy, healthier overall diet and no portion control, calorie counting and fairly rapid weight loss. Keep up the good work, we are all struggling in our own ways!
I agree with the whole walk/run game plan! When my niños were little I would stick them in the running stroller and walk them twice a day. It saved my sanity and firmed my bum up quicker than you would think. The little ones love it! Now I do the whole run/walk on the treadmill, and it really works. In the beginning, walk 5 run 2, repeat until you hit 30 min. After a week or so increase to walk 5 run 3 and so on. I swear I loathed hated and despised running, but now I kind of look forward to it. I actually like the treadmill, but outside works great too!
100% agree with Sarah. Slow and steady wins the race.
I agree with Kristen! It was a good three months before I noticed any difference. Also, I’m big into mantras haha and this one helped a lot: “will power is a muscle; the more you use it, the stronger it becomes.”
Dude, you have got to stop getting on the scale. Weight is not the core issue. You will notice a difference within 6 weeks. Like I said before, Crossfit make me lose 3 sizes in my clothes, I am strong, lean, and I am basically my own bodyguard. AND I STILL weight the same amount I did before I started! It’s perfect.
Oh my gosh that’s hilarious!! I started out the year eating NutriSystem which I’ve already grown tired of so now I am just eating a little healthier and trying to get some cardio in during the week. I have The Tracy Anderson Method video and doesn’t have too much dancing. I know the one you are talking about though. That lady can move…but I can’t!! xoxo elizabeth
I started the shred 2 days ago…can barely go up and down stairs today but for 20 minutes a day it seems the most efficient….planning on playing jillian on mute from now on with a sweet britney/90s pop playlist in the background.
Dude seriously. I’m with Sarah on this one. I know it’s frustrating- stay the course, small steps. I’m not saying not to challenge yourself, but concentrate on health first. One thing for yourself each and every day- moving more, putting some more healthier things on your plate for your next meal than your last, remembering to drink more water. This has been a year chalk full of “life”. Lots going on. Give it a couple of weeks and hang in there Bailey. You’ll make it happen.
I gave up sugar/carbs, alcohol, and online shopping a couple of weeks ago. Carbs have been the hardest to quit, but each day gets easier. What will not be easy is when my $40 girl scout cookie order (ordered before I decided to quit sugar) arrives next week and I want to shove every one in my mouth at the same time.
Good luck. And Godspeed.
TA Cardio is awful – so mad I ordered it. I felt like the biggest asshole ever in my living room doing it. One time I accidentally had my blinds open too and I wanted to die when I realized it. But I do like her perfect design series DVD’s if you are interested in those! and Slim in 6 is great too I agree! Good luck – you’ll get there don’t worry.
Hi! Somehow your blog fell off my radar and I’m having so much fun catching up!! When I read this post my heart sank for you. I gained 70 lbs with my first son. Yes, you just read that correctly. He is 6.5 now and I’m pregnant with my 3rd. I’m still going back to read your posts as the last time I read, I think you had just announced that you were pregnant. Anyway, I was filled with fluid and had toxemia but that sure didn’t amount to 70 lbs. I lost about 30 right away and then had 40 to lose!! I was so depressed. I had always been a size 4 and was wearing a 12 and miserable. It took awhile and I didn’t really “diet” b/c I was breastfeeding, but the weight would come off in weird chunks. One month-nothing and then all of a sudden I would lose 5 lbs. It really started falling off when I started my first period and every month a few more would come off after my period. I finally got to about 5 lbs from my pre-preg weight when my son was 2 and then I got pregnant again! I only gained 30 ish lbs with him and it came off pretty quickly. I’m now 27 weeks and have only gained 15 lbs. I’m still amazed. Just wanted to give you some encouragement and that I know how depressing it is when your baby is such a joy but you can’t truly enjoy it when you hate the way you look. Good Luck!!!!
Ok i’m sooo with you and rolling at the wine – I’ve had three surgeries in 4 months and put on 10 lbs to my already 15 lbs over so I am with you girl. But I cannot give up my wine – NOPE! So what does that mean cardio – cardio – cardio and cleaning eating. I know what to do and how to do it but struggling so to get your post put my feeling sorry for myself in a giggly mood. Try Zumba my girlfriend is convinced it works – I bought the tapes because i refused to go to a class because i can’t dance to save my life. The great thing is it has a beginner cd that goes step by step that a child could do it until they go into their own style and I’m like WTF – but my waist and hips hurt for two days. If you like to shake it could be fun and you can dance like a rock star in the privacy of your own home.
Keep up the great work! Love that you mentioned Slim in 6 – makes me want to pull out my old DVD and dust it off!
