$1000 Kitchen Redo

Do y’all remember the article on Grant Gibsons San Francisco apartment?
The one where his landlord gave him a rent break in exchange for Grant overhauling the place?
Well I always thought that was a pretty good deal for all parties involved, and was hoping my clients landlord would accept a similar deal to update their very office-breakroom-esque kitchen.

A little paint, some new cabinet doors, and some accessories…

glass doors, panel doors, pulls, faucet, backsplash, pendants

We were going to paint the lower cabinets black to blend with the black granite, and the uppers white. It would have been great…but alas their landlord was not having it.

But far be it for me to deprive all of you from the opportunity for a good cost effective fluff up!

By the way…Those are not actually subway tiles, but removable adhesive panels that you can apply as a backsplash. To get the look of the inspiration picture I would go back in with some flat finish black paint and paint in grout lines. The ikea cabinet doors are such a great deal, especially for a small kitchen. Because the kitchen was small, cabinet doors hid a lot of clutter so we needed the full panels, but we had planned to replace the doors above the microwave with the glass front to break it up and provide a little display moment.

Please, someone, do this and send me the pics!!

Bailey this would have been so awesome. I am actually shocked that they didn’t go for it. Perhaps you should invite him back in to see what you can do… Otherwise, I would think about maybe just doing it anyways and losing the damage deposit at the end of the lease. Because this would be killer!

That’s such a great idea. Silly landlord! I think your updates would have added to the apartment and probably got the landlord more rent once your friends leave.

Thank you for the introduction to Smart Tiles! Hello, those are awesome!

I need something for my backsplash until I can upgrade my countertops from laminate (boo) to some gorgeous stone (yay), since I don’t want to do anything too fabulous before it’s upgraded.

Off to Smart tile my kitchen…
