Making a case for turquoise and coral.

A few weeks ago I worked with a client on her master bedroom using her favorite colors: Navy, Turquoise, and Coral.

When she told me so loved turquoise and coral I was like, obviously, turquoise and coral are great pals.

As are turquoise and orange, turquoise and red, turquoise and pink!

And navy…Or its sassy sister, peacock blue, is a great chaperone for those two party colors.

So we came up with a great room plan that we both loved.

And I sent her into a local store to buy her linens.

Where the apparently quite dull proprietor of the store told her that there was no way turquoise and coral could go together in a room. Uh, lady? I beg to differ.

Right??

I love how people with no concept of good design seem to always have the biggest opinions.

Back in ‘ol 2010 turquoise, orange, navy, peacock blue were the colors we used at our wedding. I LOVE them together! However, I remember a Project Runway from years ago and one of the contestants made a crazy pair of pants with petals in turquoise and orange and the guest judge (I want to say Monique Lhullier) HATED it and said the colors were horrible together. I disagree and by the looks of the above rooms, I think she is eating her words! Viva la orange and turq!

Eff her. (sorry mama!) I think that all colors pretty much “go together”. (which happens to be a term that I hate!! Are they dating… who picks up the tab?!?!) Ugh… it is the ones with no vision that work at those places that lead the less confident in their color matching skills into a world of beige, tan, bone, biscuit, and coffee with cream. Make sure to send her a postcard of the final result saying something along the lines of… and you tried to talk me out of this… I am soooo grateful that I Didn’t listen to you! As always, great images. that dining room completely slays me. someday I will have gracie panels in my home.

Um, is there a way to pin all the images in a blog post in one fell swoop? Cause that’s what I want to do here. (That’s kinda rhetorical, but really, is there?)

That woman must be related to my MIL, who chastises me every time I wear a pair of blue jeans and don’t wear a blue top to go with them. Which, given that I’m not into the Texas Tuxedo look, is all the time. But I digress. Turquoise coral = amazeballs.

    Hi Bailey,

Just found your blog and I love it! That lady does not know what she’s talking about – those colours together are the tits. Love from Montreal xo Danina

  27. Kathy May 16, 2012 at 2:16 pm

I LOVE the color combo. I think it is unfortunate the sales person made the comment. The colors look great and even if it isn’t his/her taste so what? Designers and visionaries like you are so important to have because you think outside the typical neutral color box. Decorating is fun and is meant to show off your personality! Go Bailey!

I followed a pin on Pinterest here and so glad I did. All of these rooms are delicious. That shopkeeper must have missed her art classes in elementary school. Blue-green red-orange = complimentary colors so of course they go together, what a buffoon! I’m off to explore the rest of your blog and follow you so I can find it again :)

YES! Turquoise and coral are my favorite couple. I can totally see them swinging with navy.
