For the extremely sporadic posting this week. The post bonanza of the past few weeks wore me out. Also, we are leaving tomorrow for an international vacay with Gracie and packing up a mobile child is a lot different than a little slug nugget baby. Chicks got gear.
We are very excited for this trip though. The timing is right, Pete and I both have major life changes on the horizon, new jobs/projects/life situations that I will tell you more about in the Fall and are in a kind in a transitional lull until those things start. Plus, we figured we should do some of the traveling we have been dreaming of while we have one baby, who knows what our family situation will be next year, and traveling with a brood seems much more overwhelming than just the one. So away we go!
We are off to Italy, Pete’s family is coming with, and it is going to be awesome.
Please don’t be an asshole and comment about how spoiled I am. Not because it will hurt my feelings, I will be in Italy, what do I care? But it isn’t good for your spirit, so resist the urge.
If you are feeling crabby, although why would you, TGIF babies! This article will make you happy weep and maybe even do a good deed.
21 Pictures That Will Restore Your Faith In Humanity
People aren’t always awful. Sometimes, they’re maybe even just a little bit wonderful. Here are 21 pictures to remind you of that fact.
Weep, I tell you.
I will try to post from our vacay, I have some before&afters of the yard project at our house that y’all might enjoy.
Also, welcome to you new readers here, I am thrilled to have you. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

People that comment how spoiled you are, are just jealous. I would love a trip to italy, so I fully admit I am envious of your life. You are young, sucessful and have a beautiful home and family, what’s not to be envious of? While you have lots of fabulous things, you still seem “real” to me and don’t put on any airs of being better than anyone else. I realized a long time ago, someone else is always going to be smarter than me, prettier than me, have more money than me, etc.
PS Can’t wait to see outside pictures, your house rocks.
Have a wonderful vacation! Can’t wait to hear all about it when you get back.
HAVE A BLAST! And do post pictures of your adventures!! xo
Gosh darnnit. Now I’m all misty eyed at work. Thanks god my cube has high walls.
It was the dinner bill that did it. And all the kitties.
have fun! italy is soo beautiful. hope grace adjusts well on your trip.
Have a wonderful trip! And kudos to taking your little nugget on an international vacation – as someone without kids I’m so sick of hearing “Do it now, do you traveling now” – when, in my head, I’m saying, my kids are going to travel as early and often as possible! Enjoy yourself, you work hard, you keep us entertained and you deserve it!
Bon voyage and take lots of pictures! xoxo
You enjoy every minute girlfriend! Everyone deserves a good vacation!!
Some day I will take my 4 kids to Italy too but for now I will live vicariously through your blog, so please go on vacation as much as possible! I’m new here, but I love your posts so much it’s now my home page
You’re a sensation, have a great time!
Hope you have a wonderful trip Bailey! P.S. I have a suspicious feeling that your prego and you won’t tell us until Fall because that will be the safe zone.
Have an amazing time! If you are in Roma, hit up Giolitti for gelato and don’t skip the whipped cream on top! I think it’s fabulous you are taking the baby, will make her a world traveler for life. I also want to say thank you- your beautiful home, decorated when you maybe had some sads, totally inspired me. It’s been a rough few months for us, so today I am taking matters into my own hands and painting and stenciling my foyer wall with some hague blue to help bring the happy back.
You would be my hero if you wanted to do a post of your fave things to do/see in Italy. Kind of a Bailey-style take on the Boot! My hubby and I are in the planning stages of a trip there next year, and would love to get some inspiration! Have fun!!
so jealous. which also isn’t good for my spirit. but there it is.
have the time of your life. eat the delicious foods like it’s your last day to ever eat anything delicious.
and post pictures via instagram or something. will ya?
xo
Now I’m weepy!
Italy is my fav. Have the best time ever! Can’t wait to see where you go. It will be like a virtual vacay for me. (those are the second best kind!). Stay safe, have fun! Buy something fab for yourself! Buy something fab for Pete… And Gracie! Rome and Venice will always be my fav. No matter how touristy it is… There is something about it all. Magic I tell you!
Lucky duck! I’m hoping the husband and I can make it over to Europe next year. He’s never been and I’m itching to get back to Paris. Can’t wait for your yard photos. I need some inspiration for mine. Starting from scratch on the inside and out in our new house is quite intimidating! Have a safe trip!

have an amazing time! at some point – when you get back – can you do another baby gear/advice post for international travel? i’ll be traveling with my little bubble (love that term) next year, he’ll be older than gracie is now (17 months-ish) and would love to hear any stories or tips you have for traveling abroad with a small one.
Your assholes disclaimer just made my day- hilarious! Enjoy Italy with your family!
hahaha I love dour comment about these meanies! Enjoy Bailey!
How fun!! Have a wonderful time!
Spoiled or not, I’m freaking jealous! Have a blast!
So much fun!! Have a blast! Do you have to check strollers etc? I always see babies “on the fly” but I never really knew how the parents manage the baby gear and still have room for their own stuff in a carry-on.
Can’t wait to see the pictures!
Blerg-I LOVE Italy! So jelly, wish I could go with! I hope you have so much fun with your little family! You will have to share tips on traveling with a wee-one. Let me know if you need a house sitter-baha!
Can’t wait to hear the life updates! Your my new fave blogger, your writting style is so fun!
PLEASE go to Santa Margerita, it was the most beautiful and romantic place (albeit I was with my parents!)!!! And, as cliche as it sounds, order a margerita pizza while you’re there, it was by far the best pizza I had in Italy. And…eat a lot. Forget your diet. Go big or go home! You deserve it and your healthy snacks will be waiting for you when you get home. Enjoy your time and don’t let others get you down! Like someone already mentioned, there will always be others who have more “things” and opportunities, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be happy for them! Confident, secure people will live vicariously through your adventures and wish you well! Post pictures and restaurant recommendations…I’m planning on traveling to Italy next Spring with my new husband!!
LOL – I love the way you articulate
“Don’t be an asshole” made me laugh out loud at work. I don’t think I’ve ever commented, but have enjoyed lurking on your blog and seeing your beautiful home before-and-afters. Have a wonderful trip!!
I cried like a baby when I read that article-my husband thought I was crazy! have a great trip!
Have an amazing time! We took Henry to italy when he was 1 year old and it was awesome except for the fact that our uppa stroller, which was gate checked, didnt arrive for 4 days!!!!! Sort of a disaster, but we ended up borrowing one from a lovely family that we met. Pack extra snacks for the plane and enjoy every single meal & gelato without any guilt. Calories dont count when you are abroad
Have a great time in Italy! I am going there for the first time for my honeymoon in September and I can hardly wait!!! Please post pics!
Have an awesome time..Italy is a great country and Italians love children!!!Gracie will always want to return.
haters wanna hate so let ‘em! have the best time…my spirit is wishing you the most amazing trip ever!!!
YAY! We took our (then) 10 month old to the northern Italian lakes last year, from Australia. Was so so much fun, and everyone was super nice. Have a great time!
It ain’t no thang flying around with one baby; heck, I flew all over this globe with four and many times with no husband to lend a hand. Anyhoooo, you’ll prob have 2 next year at this time,so live it up!!!! Arrivederci!!! Xoxo
have an amazing time in italy (my favorite place) and please please please post your international travel baby tips. also i’d love to hear your italy recommendations (what to do with/without a baby?!). looking forward to hearing about your trip – almost as much anticipation as the house photos!
hi! lucky little grace who gets to dip her toes in the world of cross-atlantic travel with a trip to italy! you prob have it all planned, and might not even read this, but i actually live in Rome, and have a baby girl gracie’s age. we are decamped to summer house but if you need any tips on anything i’m happy to oblige. i even threw together a dull looking but perhaps helpful site to give numbers and addresses for the endless questions I get from friends and friends of friends and friends of friends of friends… you get the idea. have fun e buona vacanza!!!!!
haters gonna hate, but get on with your bad self. i don’t care how much money you have or don’t have, growing and raising babies is tough, yo. do it up.
“Please don’t be an asshole and comment about how spoiled I am.” Pretty much sums up why I love your blog so damn much.
get it gurrrl. post lots of pics. going in august and can’t wait!
So glad I’ve found your blog! Love it all : o ) Have a fab family trip to Italy!!
Thank you so much for sharing this. It really did touch me. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
So, as far as jealousy goes I always open this animated gif: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5b2bt4McG1qhwm7oo1_500.gif
or even better, honestly? http://s3.amazonaws.com/rapgenius/4db77_ORIG-look_at_all_the_fucks_i_give.jpg
Why? Because no one should have to apologize for getting what they want in life, as long as you keep your modesty in check. Life is *short*. I’ve seen people on here ask how y’all are so young and affording the house/fixups etc… I’m 25 too and own a successful tech/design business, and I am the daughter of *very* hardworking parents so I say apple doesn’t fall from the tree! You reap what you sow.
And… it’s no one’s business how things are paid for or what you are doing. It’s your life, you are so so so talented (your home is influencing my decor, even!) so live it to your heart’s content. You know better than any of us that colors, environment, experience … can really make or break a feeling.
Much love from Chicago,
Marcy
I am a fairly new reader (been coming over since the house reveal at Design*Sponge). The fact that you said “Don’t be an asshole” made me fall in love with your little place in blogosphere even more. Have a beautiful, magical time in Italy!!! Can NOT wait for the yard project post!! xoxo
Recently my 8 yr old nephew responded to his mom, after she commented (with a grin of course) that I was spoiling him, he, with corresponding grin, wisely responded, “Mom, I know there’s a difference between getting spoiled and acting spoiled”, so I hope you enjoy getting spoiled without worrying, like my nephew.
Have a great time! I’m super jealous!
First of all – your are amazing!!! You are the spawn of Diamond & Barratta- so jealous.
Love every square inch of your brain! Keep it going !
Having a wonderful life doesn’t equate to being spoiled. If having a wonderful life turns you into a bitchy snob who doesn’t appreciate her wonderful life, then you’re spoiled. And unless you’re the best blog-actress of all time, your wonderful life has not spoiled you. At all.
Enjoy every second of your fabulous vacation! Can’t wait to read all about it!
is it creepy I had a dream that Gracie had a baby bro?
Enjoy italia!!!
If you realize how blessed you are, you are not spoiled. Enjoy Italy! My dream vacation
You are spoiled, but isn’t that the point?!?! It’s way more fun to follow your crazy tempo-ed jet setting life rather than someone who, is say, (not mentioning names here) going to order a new Phantom screen door(!) and, wait for it, might paint the dining room wall (!) (BLACK!) and will be hanging out at the cottage for a summer break.
That’s why people are still reading Edith Wharton…not uh…those 19th century authors no one hears about anymore.
