Moonrise Kingdom

Have you seen it?

You should.

Did you know I am obsessed with Wes Anderson?

You should.

Someone commented on our D*S feature that my work reminded them of Wes Anderson, and I basically went upstairs and changed my outfit to look more like Margo Tenenbaum.

He also went to my school in Houston and Rushmore was filmed there whilst I was a student, and even though we were too young to know what was going on really, he really got me early with the hometown pride.

ANYWAYZ

Moonrise Kingdom.

So good, so beautiful. As usual with a Wes Anderson film, every shot could be a photograph.

And from now on, whenever anyone asks me what I am doing with my life I will answer

“Fighting The Beige Lunatics.”

That is now my personal mantra, tagline, and band name. So don’t steal it.

But now I have a serious question for all of you. Pete will be gone one night soon and we already have a babysitter. I am treating myself to an alone movie night.

I know, Miss Independent, what what.

Now seriously.

Do I go see Magic Mike…

Or Katy Perry 3d.

There are many things to consider here.

1. Which is more worth seeing in theaters as Pete is surely not going to either with me during their wide release, this is probably my only opportunity to see either.

2. Which is less sad/creepy/pathetic to attend alone?

I know the quick answer on #2 might be Katy Perry 3d, but consider the demographic, I might seem like a scary van lady there by myself? Trying to talk to/relate to the youths?

Then…of course…3. If you have seen both, which is the more entertaining option?

We did a real 180 there, didn’t we? Going from Moonrise Kingdom to Katy Perry/Magic Mike?

I adored Moonrise Kingdom! It was just the happiness that I needed. Now I want a pair of binoculars and a window seat to read in.

dude, this is serious. you need to go see magic mike. i went with colleagues post-work, in a sundress, with a tall boy of beer stashed in my purse. it was the best decision i’ve made in a long time. if you like ginuwine’s song ‘pony’ in ANY way…then go. and thank me later. plus it’s steven soderbergh, so it’s not just a mindless chick flick.

I haven’t seen either- but go see magic mike. I think it is less creepy than Katy Perry 3d. I mean…it’s Channing Tatum and other hunky guys shirtless. and they dance. Katy Perry dances, but I doubt she looks as yummy as Channing Tatum.

Have you seen the Wes color palette? It’s awesome – and amazing how his movies really do have a palette. http://www.vulture.com/2012/06/wes-anderson-film-color-palette.html

With a cast like that and cinematography like that, I’ve been wanting to see Moonrise Kingdom since it debuted at Cannes. So glad to hear you liked it!

And, skip MM and KP and see the Hunger Games instead!

I LOVED Moonrise Kingdom! It was such a great story and so funny and sweet at the same time. Your home definitely reminds me of a very chic Wes Anderson. I haven’t seen either movie and I am dying to see both, so I’m sorry I can’t help narrow down that decision. It’s a win/win though so don’t feel too much pressure!

I saw Magic Mike and drooled over the Pony scene. Get. It. Channing. So I’d def recommend it, however it wasn’t the feel good no plot panty dropper I expected. It touched on drug use and the struggle to leave the lifestyle, so that was sort of sad.

PS: I’ve never spent anytime in TX and decided to move to Houston for a job this week. Clearly when I think Texas, I think peppermint bliss, so fingers crossed I like it!!

Absolutely adored Moonrise Kingdom! I want to live in a Wes Anderson film.
Haven’t seen KP3D or Magic Mike but I would imagine the latter would make for better entertainment. Any chance to see Chan with his shirt off is money well spent. Have fun!

I have never even heard of moonrise kingdom but the picture remind me of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang…is that odd??
Other news, Magic Mike. I just don’t think singers should make movies. they don’t make enough money already? haha

  11. jennifer July 11, 2012 at 3:52 pm

    MAGIC MIKE!

  12. Elizabeth July 11, 2012 at 4:45 pm

Movie twins. For realz. I had the exact same debate last week, but didn’t pull the trigger. Go with Katy Perry. I saw Magic Mike and while it was amazeballs and made my palms balmy, it was a tad depressing (spoiler alert: male stripping isn’t ALL glitz and glamour). PS: If you see another loner in the theatre in Austin, safe bet it’s me! Ha!

  13. Maren July 11, 2012 at 4:55 pm

Go see Magic Mike. The Katy Perry movie just doesn’t seem that interesting. MM isn’t that sad & depressing and the shirtless scenes (i.e., practically entire movie) are worth it. Plus, Matthew McConaughy is actually pretty funny. I went (with a couple friends) and I was surprised there was actually a big range of people in the crowd.

girl you are cray. i am laughing in my oxford dorm room right now, wishing you and bubble were here with me. my hands are numb from walking outside if you can believe that, it’s that cold outside. this is the most random comment ever but basically all i’m trying to tell you is CUT. YO. WEAVE.

You must see Magic Mike. Was this a trick question?

  16. designstiles July 11, 2012 at 7:02 pm

I adored Moonrise Kingdom. That scene where they’re dancing was just about the cutest thing I’ve seen in a while. It didn’t hurt that the boy reminded me so much of my little cousin. And I actually thought Pete looked like Ed Norton.

Whatever you decide, just don’t watch TED. I walked out after about 30 mins. Even the drunk in me thought it was terrible.

  17. Carrie July 11, 2012 at 8:07 pm

Girl, KATY PERRY FOR THE WIN. That’s all.

  18. Darcy July 11, 2012 at 8:28 pm

I vote Katy Perry. But I am a lesbian not too sure I will be seeing anything with the words Magic and Mike in the title. EVER. Unless it’s a not creepy magic show and the guy’s name is Mike…I have kids. Anywho, Katy Perry in 3D was pretty amazing. She has a pretty amazing story. I did take my tween to see it…but I would have went alone. :)

Just LOVED Moonrise Kingdom, and like someone else said above, it made me want to live inside it. A happy, sweet, joyous, quirky, touching and unique movie with Wes Anderson’s magic fingerprints all over it. Can’t wait to see it again….and the CAST!!!

  20. megan beth July 11, 2012 at 9:52 pm

A shirtless channing tatum? Do you NEED anymore reason.

  21. Kristin July 12, 2012 at 6:50 am

Neither! Go see Ted! It is hysterical and you will laugh your face off!

  22. Christine July 12, 2012 at 10:49 am

I need to see Moonrise Kingdom, I wasn’t totally sold until you said it was good. Now I’m sold. I vote for Magic Mike! Or a double feature – sounds like you deserve a little extra Mommy time!

  23. rita July 12, 2012 at 8:02 pm

i love this. i want to see all 3 as well but am so embarrassed to tell people about the other two. glad i’m not alone!

  24. Kristin July 13, 2012 at 9:43 am

I’ve never been a Wes A. fan, due to the low-key quality of his films. But this one strikes just the right note of tongue-in-cheek hysteria (two kids, boy and girl, alone in the wilderness! Ack!), adult frustration and manic conformity in the Scouts…to make it hilarious as well as thought-provoking. I haven’t liked Bruce Willis this much in a long time. The offbeat, sometimes bizarre humor isn’t for everyone, but this is just like a junior high version of “Heathers”. Nobody mentioned the use of several works by Benjamin Britten, which really rounded out the film in a jarring and beautiful fashion. See it!
