To talk to y’all about our home situation.
As you may know, we are living in my parents garage apartment while we fix up our new home. Our last home. I am serious, I am not doing this ish again for a long, long time.
And I keep forgetting that I basically haven’t introduced our new Mr. Home.
And that is partly because I don’t know what we should call hims!
He is lovely. Very different from Mr. Banks. More classic, preppier…

Very suitable for a brunette, methinks.
We aren’t doing nearly as much this time.
Just redoing the cabinetry and removing the paneling in the sunroom.
Adding a bathroom, but check out this funky vintage stunner that we are keeping as is. Well, plus this awesomeness:
Y’all might not be able to see past the three tone tile, but I swears there is something super charming about it in person, and I think the wallpaper will help it make sense of itself.
We are redoing the master bath because it was wonk central and a horrible use of space.
But open floor around the sinks, and then tucked off to the side there was Pete’s closet that was 7 feet long and 2.5 feet wide. It tucked back behind the shower. So we opened it all up and put it back together properly.
And then in the kitchen we are replacing the upper cabinet doors and painting that junk dark.
We also took out the double ovens and replaced the cooktop with a combined oven/stovetop thang.
Which makes everything a bit more open and allows for us to use that space for Gracie Quin’s toys, our a desk, or my own personal dance space. Who knows.
But we are going dark, real dark in there, not black but close. And I need to make sure the lighting is good. It is a cozy home. We are going in a totally different direction with it from Mr. Clifford or Mr. Banks, but I don’t want it to be oppressively dark. Anyway, I loved our hicks pendants in Austin and REALLY wanted to get a big ol one for over the kitchen table in that corner…
But then I am like, I don’t know. Will that be like staring into the sun? Should we do a more traditional chandelier thing?

Talk to me.
What should we call him? What should I do about the lighting? Why am I at Jury Duty right now?
That’s right, while y’all are ruminating over these very important decisions, I could be deciding someone’s fate at this very moment.
Monday’s are scurry.

wait…I know this house. Featured a while back over on your neighbor’s blog. I loved it on the spot. Have it pinned for possible exterior paint colors. Great house. I like the armillary. Or, Michael Amato’s Globus for Urban Electric as an alternative to the Hicks? Probably costs bajills but hanging the sun in your kitchen should be spendy, right?
Im getting a deco vibe and I feel that Gatsby would be pretty perfect. Love it, more cozy, and not in a condescending way. Congrats
one of my all time favorite lights is that arrow number. i think it is fantastic! i say go with that.
as for names…go with something classic and preppy.
mr. sloane. or mr. spencer or mr. brighton.
i could go on all day naming shit.
it’s my favorite past time.
mr easton?
mr. sterling?
I just zipped through the Fifty Shades trilogy….and since you are going dark…my first thought is Christian Grey.
^ ^ ^ love the suggestion of Gatsby! And the house looks like it will be fabulous – cannot wait to see the end result. But the last chandelier is straight from the Hunger Games. It’s all I see when I look at it.

Not saying this is bad, but you should be aware!
Check out this light fixture from restoration…http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod691015&cm_ps=modal_add_to_cart-_-none-_-other_items_you_may_like&categoryId=cat1701013 it has all different finishes and is a bit of a combo of the arrow but a more traditional chandalier…
I’m thinking something royal..William the Duke of Houston…or a little historical..The General..or if you wanted the house to be a girl (a la boats) she could be Lady Bluebonnet (Lady B for short) which i think would go perfect with Mizz Bailey coowner of Biscuit living in Lady B.
So excited to see your skills turn it into your own!
I have done the (2nd)chandelier in 2 homes and do not tire of it.
Love that second chandi but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them!
As for the name, I think historical/traditional would be appropriate. Something like Sam Huston comes to mind.
Congratulations on it’s loveliness!
I have 2 winners
Mr. Belvedere or Thurston Howell, III
The 2nd option seems fitting because it’s your 3rd family home.
You’re Welcome.
Cary Grant
love it
Cary Grant-or Loretta Young
Love it
Louis Winthorp III, from Trading Places.
Mr. Chips (for the Peter O’Toole fans out there).
Mr. Chips, (for the Peter O’Toole Fans).
Sir or Madame Houston! It is beautiful. Congrats! xo
Love it!
You should call him Mr. Darcy
oh my gosh, your new home looks absolutely gorgeous! i am so envious. good luck naming him! when do yall move in?? can’t wait to see it in action.

I’m in looove with the Hicks pendant! And like another commenter said, I can’t get past the Hunger Games-esque look of the last one (but it’s lovely!). Gotta say, I like seeing your step-by-step process so far with this house, versus your other homes that were more of a ‘wow’ all at the end–both ways are such fun as a blog follower
I feel like the word Manor should be incorporated into the name. It feels appropriately proper.
Adorable house! Love the dark cabinet idea. I say call him Mr. Hicks after that amazing light!
GATSBY!
House is beautiful! I cant wait to see After pictures – congrats
The gray facade immediately made me think of Cary Grant in those gorgeous signature gray suits of his – and the red door like a red tie.
The house looks elegant, classy, attractive – just like Cary Grant!
Your posts are some of the funnest to read. I can’t help you with a name, unfortunately…I just call mine #9! I am so so excited to see your finished home =)
Holy moly that is not even a question- option 1! I have gone dark in my kitchen and will never go back. Went on a workshop with Abigail Ahern and once you’re in her pad you just all of a sudden get what she means about going dark. Its magical. One warning, when you go dark, make sure the ceilings are dark too- it opens up the space (crazy I know but with a white ceiling and dark walls it feels like the ceiling is caving down). Good luck with it all!
Ahhhh. Just get the first one and have it on a dimmer. VOILA! Love the new digs, but wishing you were still here in Austin… I would love to shop your store!!!!!
Wow, your new home is gorgeous! I don’t think it looks like it needs a lot of work at all. I actually really like the white cabinets, but I could see why would want to personalize it. LOVE the hot air balloon wallpaper! Lastly, I second the Cary Grant suggestion and the third chandelier is the most fun!
Seriously? No one for Thurston Howell, III?
I really love the 1st and last chandeliers-super fun- but I have to say the last one is a little Hunger Games-y. Yes, I read kids’ books- don’t judge me.
I read your blog almost every day and I’ve never posted. I love your style, Bailey–so unique. But the reason I’m writing is that I’m super excited you are keeping the vintage bathroom. I’m so bored of people gutting beautiful vintage bathrooms to put in something generic that everybody else has. The balloon wallpaper is to die for, too!
Downton Houston… beautiful house!
I LOVE the hicks light! Gorg.
For a name, maybe “third times a charm?” sounds too much like a horse though, right?!! I do love the name Mr. Darcy. Ahhh, just makes me feel all romantical. Congrats, Bailey!
So pretty! I just love that dark, puttyish gray with the red door and black lanterns! Congratulations. The whole house looks lovely. You should try to sell the existing breakfast area chandelier via the blog. I can see how you want to change it, but it’s very pretty!
Beautiful! I love the Gatsby reco, or you could go with Mr. Kennedy, Mr. Roosevelt, The Clydesdale or The Houston
I looooove the last fixture!!
As for names: I heart “Cary Grant” and “The General”. “McArchy” would be fun! Tie it into your last name and the archways in the entry!
Gatsby is perfect!
I love love love that wallpaper for the bathroom, very excited to see the end!!
I loved the pendants in your Austin kitchen!!! The third option is awesome as well. It’s very Hunger Games, but I mean that in a good way. It’s a gorgeous house! I agree with the others that a refined gentlemanly name would suit him well.
Dorian Gray would be a great name. Everything you see would be beautiful and the only problems would be in the attic (which nobody sees anyway).
Where is the second chandelier from? i LOOOVVVEEE it and its what i have been searchimg for in my dining room!
