Doing a photoshoot like this is kind of like starting a paper the night before it is due. I swear to you that my brain comes up with much better ideas under pressure. In college I would always write two papers- One I started outlining the day the assignment was given, and then promptly did no more work on until the night before the paper was due when I would completely start over. The last minute ideas are always better- the problem is you don’t have the time to totally execute them. Shooting the house yesterday I had about 20 moments of clarity that involved trips to the storage unit/Biscuit to do some last minute redecorating. The biggest leduh moment was our bedside tables. Which were always too big and just…wrong. The lamp, the stuff on them. It never worked.
Before & After
A quick trip to the storage unit to get our old side tables from our bedroom in Chicago- and to Biscuit for new lamps. A little styling and ta-da!!! It might not seem revolutionary to you, but in person it was just what the room needed. The mirrors on the side tables reflect the awesome wallpaper, and while I had hesitated on the green lamps since we already have a solid green rug and a lot of chartreuse in the wallpaper, it’s just right.
A lot of it has to do with the scale…The other tables were too high compared with the mattress, and too leggy. And then the lamp was too short and squat. You can also see how beauteous our Jamie Multi Shams are looking…
I love shooting with Emily, you should really follow her and her work.
Today we are shooting at the store. Cannot WAIT to show you these.
BTW if any of you were planning to stop by Biscuit the next few days, we will be closed Weds/Thurs for Market, and then I will be gone a lot of next week for Alt Summit.
So nervous about Alt. Agoraphobia? Social Anxiety? NothingToWear? All of the above? Anyone else going?
Also- intern applicants. We are still looking over your resumes, there were lots! We will be in touch this week though.
