Stockin’

Are any of you in retail?

You might have to in order to fully appreciate this. Or perhaps, just spatially sensitive.

But I am taking you behind the curtain at Biscuit today. man-behind-curtainTry to contain your horror, but…photo 1

Our stock room at Biscuit is about 12×16.

We have floor to ceiling shelves on one side for stock, a desk and filing cabinets, and a loveseat with some shelves on either side.photo 1-1

The space has been reconfigured a few times as we try in vain to realize some magic feng shui that will make the space not 12×16.

But no matter where we put the couch, it is still 12×16.

And we have to have the couch. Maddie sits at the desk and uses the computer, Caroline sits next to her and kind of uses the desk/filing cabinet, and because I am the boss, I get my own desk.

We three little elves bake up a lot of Biscuit magic out of that tiny room. Client design work, placing retail orders, managing production, product development, shipping out online orders, and receiving stock.

The problem is…retail is unpredictable. We placed the majority of our new orders right after Dallas market in January. And they are still trickling in. Yesterday, the boxes got aggressive. We received 7 giant boxes from FedEx in the morning, and as soon as we had wrangled the last packing peanut from that shipment, we got another 8 in the afternoon from UPS. photo

Which looks like that. And not getting anything else done.

It also means lots of new items going up at Biscuit today!

I know I feel reallllyyy lucky to have our team.

Maddie, Caroline and I spend a lotttt of up close and personal time together back there, and so far work really well together and actually enjoy each other. I can’t wait to introduce y’all.

Without them I would be like:milton-office-space

I suggest putting in an extra floor and sitting down all the time to avoid head room issues (if you need to move around you could use wheely chairs :)
Haha looks like fun though, good luck with the boxes

Loved your post as always. LOVE all of the rooms you do the mix of color, patterns, texture, etc. I love that you are so gutsy. Thanks for being such an inspiration. You inspired me to use the cole and son hummingbirds as wallpaper in my dining room — check it here…www.stephaniekraussdesigns.blogspot.com

So glad I discovered you through ‘Little Green Notebook’. Love the metal stand. Is it one of a kind or are there more so that I can buy one?
