I feel like Joey Potter.

Which normally would be an excellent thing, and the achievement of the central goal in my life from 2000-2004, but right now- not so much. Because I feel like Joey in episode 315: Crime & Punishment.

What? You don’t remember the plot summary off the top of your head? Ok. Fine.

It was the one where Joey was commissioned by Principal Green to paint a mural that represented her high school experience, and she obviously took it SUPER seriously because, like me, Joey is a total TryHard (when did that become a bad thing? was it the OC?) and before the unveiling she gives this highly emotional speech about the importance of possibility and how that is what her mural represents:

And she is full on baby voiced, side mouth talking, lovable Joey, so you know she is about to get kicked in her optimistic little puppy face. And then…

photo 5

And Dawson is like…

And everyone else is like…

And Joey is like…

And then she runs away.

Pretty much exactly like Joey- complete with the weird talking out of the side of my mouth thing.

Such a bummer, but not to worry. We are already back to work repainting it and will take steps to prevent it from happening again.

Because sometimes you just have to be the Pacey to your Joey and save your own damn day.

Oh Bailey! I’m sorry this happened. I’d have been beside myself but you are so calm, collected and smooth on the news! Keep on keepin’ on, don’t let the losers get you down.

  2. katerina@lexandliv May 23, 2014 at 11:07 am

Bailey, I’m so impressed with the hashtag idea. BRILLIANT!
But you know what? Free advertising! No press is bad press, right?

  3. Christine Dovey May 23, 2014 at 11:22 am

Arg…I’m so bummed for you that this happened:( People can be so dumb. Your sweet self and positive spirit will win out in the end though and I’ll be so happy when the new wall is unveiled. Chin up my friend:) xx

  4. Lily May 23, 2014 at 11:23 am

NO WAY! That is exactly what the reporter said, an immature and desperate cry for attention. Good luck trying to protect your gorgeous wall — but shameful that you should have to. Sending warmer vibes your way.

    x Lily

  5. Jessica May 23, 2014 at 11:33 am

I saw this on the news last night, so sorry you are having to deal with this!

  6. Katie Rose May 23, 2014 at 11:38 am

I am so bummed for you. I can’t wait to see what it looks like once you are done repainting- I’m sure it will be more beautiful than ever.

  7. caitlin May 23, 2014 at 12:00 pm

What kind of doofus would paint over that beautiful wall…

  8. Tessa O May 23, 2014 at 12:26 pm

I’m so bummed to see this happen! Your wall is such a cool gift to the city but I know your positivity will win out as it always seems to do. You go girl!

  9. Steph May 23, 2014 at 12:50 pm

I was in houston this week and went looking for the wall since Biscuit was already closed…this is such a bummer but you seem to be handling it with class (wouldn’t have expected anything less). BONUS- you and the store looked great on TV and they will catch these jerks…love what you’re doing for the community. keep your head up!!

  10. Becca May 23, 2014 at 12:57 pm

I am really so sorry this happened and feel badly that your building was defaced and the mural ruined. But LOLx1000 at your Dawson’s Creek references and screenshots! πŸ™‚

  11. alison g. May 23, 2014 at 1:26 pm

Oh, Lady B, I hate that your premonition was valid. Hope HPD nabs the turds. You’re above it, anyway.

  12. Jules May 23, 2014 at 1:44 pm

Sorry to hear this bailey, sure it will be even more beautiful second time round!

  13. Donna May 23, 2014 at 2:07 pm

This infuriates me. I was just there Saturday, having made a point to go see your new store while visiting from NC. I have a wonderful photo of my daughter and me in front of the wall, and nobody can deface that happy memory. Repaint it, protect it, and don’t let the vandalizing bastards get you down. Best wishes!

  14. Keeley {Keeley Kraft} May 23, 2014 at 2:32 pm

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry this happened to you and your new store! You don’t deserve that at all!!! But as mentioned above, maybe the silver lining is that no press is bad press? :). You are a strong lady and will come out on top of all of this!

  15. Melissa May 23, 2014 at 2:44 pm

Oh no how awful as that wall is gorgeous. On the plus side lots of free advertising for you.

  16. Sara May 23, 2014 at 3:04 pm

Bailey, just yesterday I was listening to “Houston Matters” (at noon on KUHF)all about street art, graffiti and tags, etc. in Houston. And how METRO is even working with a former graffiti artist turned street artist to do a mural for them and how we have so many wonderful murals on private property. The one issue the show did not address (or at least I didn’t hear it) was this very thing you’ve just experienced. Good luck and I hope they get caught!

  17. erin {whaling city cottage} May 23, 2014 at 3:17 pm

WHAT???? My mouth seriously just dropped open. That’s terrible! What the heck is wrong with people? Give your chin up, Joey! πŸ™‚

  18. Molly {Dreams in HD} May 23, 2014 at 3:21 pm

oh bailey i’m so sorry to hear that! it’s obvious from the hashtag how much the community loves the mural…glad you’re going to be repainting it πŸ™‚

  19. Karen Almand May 23, 2014 at 3:21 pm

Oh I am so sorry!!! I know you are sick! Someone stole my bike of my porch and I was so pissed-it’s just a really, wierd, violated feeling. I can only imagine how this made you feel. I just don’t understand punks that want to ruin such beautiful art. Keep your chin up-this too will pass!

  20. Erin | Holtwood Hipster May 23, 2014 at 4:37 pm

Little bastards! You lady however are a class act. Keep on keeping on Bailey.

  21. Jennifer May 23, 2014 at 4:55 pm

OMG. The Joey Potter reference really made my morning. I’m sorry this happened to your business, but your approach to dealing with it through this post is priceless.

  22. ann May 23, 2014 at 5:03 pm

So sorry this happened, but short of a 24 hour guard, not sure how you can avoid it. I understand..I’m a Houstonian and lived in Montrose for 10 years.

The saddest thing is that even if you had left the building painted black, this would have happened anyway.

Remembering that you said this part of Westheimer is trying to establish itself as a new design center neighborhood. IMHO, that is going to take a lot of effort and time and patience. You’re a better person than I am if you can wait it out.

Looking forward to seeing the new space tomorrow.

  23. kkrs May 23, 2014 at 5:46 pm

Stupid. Just stupid. I don’t get graffiti “artists”. Or in this and most cases… Graffiti terrorists. Did they think that they could possibly improve upon rainbow perfection? Or, did they just set out to wreck something for the sake of destroying? That is the part I do not get. What is the point of wrecking something just for the sake of wrecking it? Where are their mothers? Certainly, they’d be mortified of their sons. Sorry that this happened to you. I hope that those jerkballs get caught, and receive stiff fines. High enough to deter graffiti terrorists all over.

Silver lining: Your store did make the news.

Second silver lining: From the looks of it, it wasn’t the phallus that you originally feared.

How utterly disappointing it must have been to pull up to that. You do not deserve that. I hope that those stupid-face losers get what they deserve… I also hope that they have to spend a large amount of time removing “tags” all over Houston.

    Cheer up, Charlie!

  24. Dianne May 23, 2014 at 9:16 pm

So sorry to see this. I know how hurt you must be. I also know that you will have the wall looking even better in no time. hugs!

  25. Karen May 23, 2014 at 11:29 pm

Oh, I’m so sorry. What a hit to a beautiful thing. Since when do reporters call vandals “graffiti artists”?

  26. Linda May 24, 2014 at 3:18 pm

I am so sorry this happened… As everyone else mentioned, you are a lady – and re painting will happen. Keep on being beautiful you . Your style is amazing.

  27. Amber @ Simple Dwellings May 26, 2014 at 3:32 pm

Oh Bailey, I’m so sorry! People can be so ridiculous, with nothing better to do than ruin an amazing thing! Hang in there and keep smiling. And what idiot does graffiti with cameras right there?!? The new unveiling will be amazing!!

  28. Lauren May 26, 2014 at 10:11 pm

    What is wrong with people?

  29. smash May 27, 2014 at 6:40 am

UGH!! I’m so sorry Bailey, but so proud of you for standing up and fixing it so quickly! Also, you did a great job on the news πŸ™‚

  30. Brooke May 27, 2014 at 11:06 am

So sorry to hear/see/watch this!! But way to be so positive and proactive! Keep fighting the good fight!

  31. Sarah May 27, 2014 at 11:10 am

UGH!!!! People can just be so ridiculous sometimes and it is infuriating, but such a great message you are sending by fixing it and not letting them get you down…maybe someone will buy you a whole extra wall downtown that he will paint ‘ask me to stay’ on and you will sail away together for the whole summer πŸ˜‰

  32. Eva Mijes May 27, 2014 at 1:45 pm

I am so sorry this happened! I never comment, but I read every post. I just wanted to tell you to NOT let this get you down! Show them that the Biscuit wall will prevail!

  33. Tara May 27, 2014 at 6:55 pm

This makes me so upset and disappointed in people. I’m sorry your wall was vandalized, but you have such a great sense of humor relating it to Dawson’s Creek. haha great post! I need to come visit your store soon! I’ve seen Biscuit bedding and love it, but didn’t realize you had a store right here in Houston. Apparently, I’m slow to catch on!

  34. Domestic Disgrace May 28, 2014 at 4:28 am

Absolutely gutted for you – what an awful shame. I do hope it can be fixed somehow.

I do love your blog by the way. It’s so nice to read a home style blog by someone with a sense of humour and a personality πŸ˜‰

  35. Kate @ Travelmoon May 28, 2014 at 10:55 am

I’m so sorry to hear of this happening. How extremely frustrating and sad, I am so happy to hear you will be fixing it and not letting the bad guys prevail!

  36. Rose May 28, 2014 at 6:01 pm

Wow, that really sucks, Bailey. Some people are just ugly. Keep on being beautiful!

  37. Susan May 29, 2014 at 2:30 am

oh Bailey, so sorry. Not fair. You sounded and looked great on TV though. Shine on, you keep inspiring me! Besos!!
